About the tour

More than just a tour, this is an invitation to feel the pulse of Portuguese history — among ancient stones, eternal legends and enchanting landscapes.

Throughout a day filled with history and beauty, we will travel through centuries of conquests, legends of love and masterpieces of Gothic architecture. Each stop reveals a new chapter in Portuguese identity — from the medieval echoes of the castle that protects Leiria to the monumental serenity of the monasteries that witnessed the birth of the nation.

The morning begins with a trip to the medieval heart of Leiria, where Leiria Castle has dominated the city since the 12th century. Built during the reign of D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, this castle was the scene of battles, loves and decisions that shaped the nascent country.
During the visit, we will explore the towers, walls and inner courtyards, while enjoying panoramic views over the River Lis and the surrounding hills. The guide will share fascinating stories about visionary queens, Knights Templar and the urban evolution of Leiria.

We continue to Alcobaça, one of UNESCO's world heritage gems and one of the most impressive examples of Cistercian architecture in Europe.
Founded in 1153, the Monastery of Alcobaça is a place of serenity and mystery. Here lie side by side the tombs of D. Pedro I and Inês de Castro, protagonists of the most tragic Portuguese love story — a romance that transcended death.
During the visit, we will discover the monks' silent cloister, the grandiose Gothic church and the rooms that once housed one of the most powerful monastic communities in the country.

The afternoon takes us to the majestic Batalha, where the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória stands, built to celebrate Portugal's victory over Castile at the Battle of Aljubarrota (1385).

This late Gothic masterpiece is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and impresses with its richly carved details, colourful stained glass windows and the beauty of the Imperfect Chapels, unfinished but of unparalleled elegance.

Here we will learn the stories of kings, architects and artists who transformed faith and art into a monument to Portuguese national identity.
