On this tour you will visit three Palaces where the Portuguese monarchy lived.

 

The tour begins with a visit to the Palácio de Queluz, located about 12 km from Lisbon, the Palácio Nacional de Queluz was the royal residence of two generations of monarchs. It is the most representative palace monument of court life in the second half of the 18th century, containing important collections of decorative arts, mostly from the royal house.

Then we climb the Serra de Sintra to visit a fairy tale Palace, the Palácio da Pena built in two different times, it served the monks and then a king of Portugal, it radically transforms the landscape of Sintra into what we know today.

In 1992, UNESCO expanded the World Heritage categories and added the Cultural Landscape.

Sintra was classified as a World Heritage Site under the category of ""Cultural Landscape"" on December 6, 1995, during the 19th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Berlin.

 

The journey continues to Mafra to visit the Royal Convent of Mafra, later renamed the National Palace of Mafra, it is an imposing work of the reign of King João V and the most important symbol of baroque architecture in Portugal. Classified as a National Monument in 1910, it was a finalist in the election of the Seven Wonders of Portugal in 2007 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, having won the title in 2020.

All monuments can be visited from the inside, taking into account their closing time, if you don't want to go inside all of them, you can always take photos from the outside. This may change the estimated time for the end of the tour.
